How Yoga and Journaling Helped Me Heal
When I started recovery, I had so many feelings I didn’t know how to express. Talking felt hard. Thinking felt overwhelming. But moving my body in gentle, careful ways through yoga felt like something I could actually handle.
Yoga became a place where I could breathe again.
A place where I could listen to my body instead of fighting it.
A place where I could feel calm without forcing myself to be.
I don’t do anything fancy — no upside-down poses or anything extreme. Just slow stretches, grounding breaths, and moments where I let my mind be quiet. Yoga helped me feel present when everything else felt too heavy.
Journaling helps too. Writing down what scares me, what confuses me, what I’m proud of — it clears space in my mind. I usually write after yoga, when my thoughts feel softer and easier to understand.
These habits don’t solve everything, but they help me stay connected to myself.
And in recovery, connection is everything.
